Congratulations Canada! As of June 29-2016, the Canadian government has listed microbeads as a toxic substance under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). This means action can now be taken to ban them in Canada and get them off our shelves for good.
Thank you to Maria Westerbos from Beat the Microbead for spearheading such (marine) life saving initiative, to Environmental Defence Canada and to the thousands of Canadians who took part in getting the government to officially list microbeads as toxic. UpGyres is very proud to have taken part in this successful initiative.
