Living Oceans Society (LOS) has been a leader in the effort to protect Canada’s Pacific coast since they formed in 1998.
The Society is based in Sointula, a small fishing village part of the historic and present territory of the ‘Namgis First Nation on the Central Coast of British Columbia.
The group’s influence is national; they are the largest organization in Canada focusing exclusively on marine conservation. Living
Oceans Society advocates for oceans that are managed for the common good according to science-based policies that consider ecosystems in their entirety.
Between June and September 2013 LOS provided Upcycle the Gyres Society with 210kg of plastic collected off the coast and beaches of Vancouver Island as part of the Living Oceans Society tsunami debris cleanup effort.
