Mr. Michalik, Founder and Managing Director of 365Playground.
Martin is representing Upcycle the Gyres and helping to develop a network of support within the tourism industry and communities in Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Indonesia and Maldives.
Martin’s highly esteemed career in the hospitality industry began when he gained his degree in International Hospitality Management at the exceedingly acclaimed Swiss Hospitality Institute, César Ritz.
In a career spanning more than 20 years, he has held a large number of executive and general manager positions in corporate pre-opening, operational and development roles with major international hotels and resorts. These include One&Only, Four Seasons and a number of independent Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), Luxury Hotels of the World (LHW), and Relais & Chateaux properties across a broad range of countries including Thailand, Cambodia, the Czech Republic, the Maldives, Japan, Canada and the United States.
He helped open Four Seasons Hualalai and Las Vegas, and played key Director of Food & Beverage / Resort & Project Management roles in the pre-opening of One&Only Kanuhura (no longer under One&Only), Hotel de La Paix and Indigo Pearl. Martin also held concept and general manager roles in the refurbishment, rebranding and repositioning of the JW Marriott Phuket F&B Operations, Hotel Hoffmeister and the Almyra Resort.
Working closely with owners, Martin has played an indispensable corporate role in the development of the Sankara and Thanyapura brands and products.
Complementing Martin’s executive and operational acumen is his ability and passion for responsible and sustainable initiatives within the industry, from organic farming concepts to recycled glass projects.
Martin worked on the development and opening of Thanyamundra Organic Resort, a luxury boutique resort in Khao Sok National Forest, with a working organic farm allowing guests the ultimate experience in eco-tourism. His work in the concept and development of Almyra Spa resulted in the first spa in Cyprus to use fully organic products, and from his role in the development and opening of Sankara Nairobi, the hotel featured the unique Kitengela hot glass throughout the hotel, each piece handmade and 100% recycled, 100% Kenyan.
One of the many reasons why Martin & 365playground chose to work with the exclusive luxury resort Baros Maldives, was its Marine Center with a dedicated program to enhance their natural house-reef as well as create nurseries for local coral reef and marine life. Similar activities are core of all projects Martin & 365playground are involved with in Maldives and other parts of Asia.
Martin is a board member and actively supports Magna, Children at Risk:
