Given the turmoil the Cowboys endured early on, it’s fair to characterize Dallas’ first eight games as a major success.
The Cowboys seemed to be in serious trouble after losing Dak Prescott in Week 1 on the heels of Tyron Smith’s long-term injury, but they’ve since won six of their last seven games. The defense has been tremendous, and Prescott’s return has helped spark the offense.
The Cowboys (6-2) have momentum on their side right now, but the NFC East isn’t making their path easy. Dallas trails the undefeated Eagles by two games plus, at least for now, a tiebreaker. The Giants, also 6-2, are battling for second in the division.
Here’s what you need to know about the Cowboys’ schedule going forward.
Do the Cowboys play today?
The Cowboys are on their bye in Week 9 and will not play this weekend. Dallas fans might not want their team to take a week off given how well they’ve played recently, but the Cowboys are coming up on an extremely important stretch of their schedule.
Dallas’ next three opponents are the Packers, Vikings, and Giants, with two of those three games coming on the road. The Vikings and Giants are both up to six wins, while the Packers at Lambeau Field seem to always be a challenge even in a down year.
The Cowboys are also using their bye week to get Ezekiel Elliott back to full health. Elliott missed Week 8 with a knee injury and is expected to return for Dallas’ Week 10 matchup with Green Bay.
