Bradley Chubb trade details: Dolphins pay premium draft-pick price for Broncos pass rusher

Bradley Chubb is taking his talents to South Beach.

After speculation that the Broncos’ star pass rusher would be on the move, the speculation became reality about an hour before the 2022 NFL trade deadline, with the Dolphins sending a package of picks and a player to Denver for Chubb.

Chubb was in line for a new contract from Denver, and he’s reportedly expected to get one from Miami with the move. Denver picks up a first-round pick and a little bit more from the ‘Phins.

Here’s how the deal breaks down for both sides:

Bradley Chubb trade details

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins sent a first-round pick and a little more for Chubb. Full details:

  • Dolphins receive: OLB Bradley Chubb, 2025 NFL Draft fifth-round pick;
  • Broncos receive: 2023 NFL Draft first-round pick (from MIA via SF); 2024 NFL Draft fourth-round pick.

The Broncos still have a good host a pass-rushers in the building, including second-year edge rusher Baron Browning and Randy Gregory. Moving on from Chubb for a first-round pick — even if late in the first in the 2023 draft — was wise.

The Dolphins now no longer have a 2023 first-round pick after it was forfeited due to the investigation surrounding tampering allegations this past offseason.

In all, Chubb has accounted for 26 pressures in 2022, and coupling that with blossoming edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and veteran Melvin Ingram gives the Dolphins a good group of rushers and bookend edge rushers if a deal can get done.

That will be the next order of business for Miami: extend Chubb, who is on the last year of his deal. The two sides are expected to work out a long-term deal, Schefter reports.
