NFL Week 9 coverage map: TV schedule for CBS, Fox regional broadcasts

The NFL Sunday slate is the thinnest one to date. There are six teams on bye in Week 9 — the most that will be off at one time during the 2022 NFL season — so between that and the three prime-time games, there are 12 teams that won’t be in action on Sunday afternoon.

As such, there will be just 10 total games broadcast in the early- and late-afternoon windows on CBS and Fox. Per usual, the networks will be splitting them down the middle, but it’s CBS that has the privilege of broadcasting the doubleheader in this light slate.

CBS is poised to take advantage of that by creating what will effectively be another nationally televised game, as they are airing just one contest in the 4:25 p.m. ET window. As a result, the whole country will have access to the Buccaneers vs. Rams game as both teams look to get back on track after slow starts to the season.

CBS’s early window coverage will be headlined by an interesting AFC clash between the Bills and the Jets. A majority of the country will watch that while three other contests round out the regional coverage.

As for Fox, the network will broadcast four of its five games in the early window with the Seahawks-Cardinals late-window game being its stand-alone. That won’t be broadcast nationally like CBS’s contest, but it will be available in a good chunk of the major TV markets. Others will see the Packers-Lions and Vikings-Commanders games.

There is one quirk in the Week 9 schedule. Detroit won’t broadcast a game locally in the CBS early slot due to a local blackout. As such, Lions fans will only be able to watch the Packers-Lions game in the early slate and then the Buccaneers-Rams game in the late slate. Other markets will get a choice of three games.

There is no TV map needed for the CBS late slate in Week 9. Buccaneers vs. Rams will be nationally televised, so the entire country will be able to see Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford square off and jockey for divisional and wild-card positioning.

TV schedule for NFL Week 9 games

The NFL will feature a “Sunday Night Football” game between two 5-2 teams in Week 9, as the Chiefs will host the Titans at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs are fresh off a bye week and will look to exact revenge on the Titans, who have bested Andy Reid’s squad in five of their last six meetings.

Mike Vrabel has a 3-1 record against the Chiefs as coach of the Titans, so don’t be surprised if this game is better than most expect.

As for “Monday Night Football,” that will feature an intriguing battle between a 5-3 Ravens team headlined by Lamar Jackson and a 3-5 Saints team led by Andy Dalton. The Red Rifle has struggled in prime-time throughout his career, but he will play in front of crowd at the Superdome that knows New Orleans is desperate for a win.
