By Sean Jones: Oscar La Hoya says the networks still need to come to an agreement for the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight can get made.
According to De La Hoya, the promoters have hashed out everything, and they’re just waiting to see if the networks can agree. In other words, this is the same thing that Stephen Espinoza reported last week about the networks.
The issue is, Showtime wants to be the sole broadcaster for the Tank vs. Ryan fight, but DAZN wants to be able to show the fight as well.
It’s unrealistic to assume that DAZN will let Showtime have its way by allowing Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) to face WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) on their network without them showing it.
If Ryan had a decent chance of beating Tank Davis, it’s possible that DAZN might allow him to fight on Showtime without the match being shown on their platform. But with Ryan having almost no shot of winning that fight, it doesn’t make sense for DAZN to allow him to fight Tank Davis on Showtime and watch him get wiped out.
It would be a good idea for De La Hoya to start looking for an alternative opponent for the 23-year-old Ryan Garcia in case the fight with Tank Davis doesn’t get made because it’s not looking good right now.
Since Ryan is now saying he’s a 140-pounder, it’s time for him to get his feet wet in the light welterweight division by taking on one of these contenders:
- Gary Antuanne Russell
- Teofimo Lopez
- Subriel Matias
- Arnold Barboza
- Shakram Giyasov
- Jose Ramirez
- Jeremias Ponce
- Liam Paro
“The promoters have done their job. We’ve come to terms with everything. Now it’s up to the networks. Showtime, DAZN, please, for the fans, make it happen,” said Oscar De La Hoya to ID Boxing about the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight negotiations.
Ryan and Tank have invested a lot of time in this fight. Hopefully, they don’t wind up with anything to show for all the time they’ve poured into making this fight.
If the fight doesn’t get made, Tank’s management at PBC and Mayweather Promotions will likely sign him up against a retread opponent Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, for a rematch of their fight that took place last year.
