By Craig Daly: Trainer Bozy Ennis says if Terence Crawford is his own boss like he claims to be, he could have fought Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis instead of David Avanesyan on December 10th on BLK Prime at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
WBO welterweight champion Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) said this week that he would have taken a fight with Boots (29-0, 27 KOs) or Vergil Ortiz Jr for December 10th, but neither of those names came up. Instead, it was #6 WBO Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs) that Crawford opted to fight on this date.
It’s safe to say that the dangerous Boots Ennis is the last guy that Crawford will mix it up with.
There has been a huge backlash towards Crawford since the Avanesyan fight was announced, as the boxing public feels that he should have stuck it out in the negotiations with IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr rather than abandoning the talks without warning.
Bozy says that what he’s heard from Crawford, he doesn’t want to fight Spence. Yeah, that’s a good interpretation of Crawford’s behavior by choosing to abandon the negotiations without warning and taking a match against Avanesyan.
“So you can call the shots and say that’s who you want to fight since you your own boss,” said Bozy Ennis to YSM Sports media, reacting to Terence Crawford saying that he calls the shots for his fights due to him being his own promoter.
“You ain’t got to fight Avanesyan. You can fight either Vergil or us [Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis]. But I don’t know what the situation was between him and Spence, though.
“I’ve been hearing all sorts of things. Everything I hear that is coming from him is that he really didn’t want to fight [Errol Spence]. That’s the way it seemed like to me. He really didn’t want to fight Spence.
“It should be because they said. I heard the deal [with Spence] was done, and all he [Crawford] had to do was sign. That’s what I heard.
“To fight us,” said Bozy when told that Crawford said that he would fight Boots Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr in a “heartbeat.” You know yourself, we asked to fight all of them. Spence, Crawford, Ugas, even Ortiz, Thurman. All of the top guys in the top five. We’ve been there for that a long time ago.
“So all you got to do is say our name, and we’ll be there. We’ll take it in a heartbeat,” said Bozy when asked if Boots Ennis would fight Crawford if he received a phone call from him.
